untitled 39

What DO you Want in a personal Trainer?

As coaches, we spend a lot of time worrying about programming.

Are my sets and reps correct?

Did I pick the perfect exercise?

Should I use a trap bar deadlift or an RDL?

Don’t get me wrong. That stuff matters. It’s our job to know how to get people stronger, healthier, and moving better.

But after coaching hundreds of people over the years, I’ve learned something:

Most clients don’t stay because of the program.

They stay because of the relationship.

When someone walks through our doors at JDFit, they’re usually nervous. Maybe they’ve never worked out before. Maybe they’ve tried every diet and fitness challenge under the sun. Maybe they’re dealing with an old injury or they’re frustrated because nothing has worked.

What they’re looking for isn’t the world’s greatest spreadsheet.

They’re looking for someone they can trust.

Someone who listens.

Someone who understands what they’re trying to accomplish.

Someone who remembers that they have a bad knee, a stressful job, three kids at home, and a schedule that feels impossible.

The truth is, most people have no idea if their coach is using advanced periodization models or the latest exercise science research.

What they do notice is whether their coach cares.

They notice when you ask how their vacation went.

They notice when you remember their daughter’s graduation.

They notice when you send them a message because they missed a few sessions.

They notice when you celebrate their wins, even if those wins have nothing to do with the scale.

The fitness industry loves to talk about certifications, continuing education, and the newest training methods.

Those things absolutely matter.

A coach should be educated. A coach should know how to write a program. A coach should know how to keep people safe.

But those things are the price of admission.

The real difference-maker is connection.

People want accountability.

People want encouragement.

People want to feel like someone is in their corner.

And if you can combine great coaching with genuine relationships, you’ll create something far more powerful than a workout program.

You’ll create an environment where people actually want to show up.

At the end of the day, nobody remembers the exact workout they did six months ago.

They remember how you made them feel.

They remember whether they felt welcomed.

They remember whether they felt supported.

And that’s why the best coaches aren’t always the smartest people in the room.

They’re often the people who care the most.

The program gets people results.

The relationship keeps them around long enough to achieve them.

If you’ve been thinking about hiring a coach, don’t worry about finding the perfect workout program. Find a place where you feel supported, challenged, and genuinely cared about.

That’s exactly what we strive to build every day at JDFit.
